I am researching family history and interested in information about the Maeder family members (Edward, Robert Sir and Robert Jnr) who served at Colesberg. I am also tracking maps and photos of Maeder's Farm. - Anthony Maeder (Sydney, Australia)

Hi
I sold the QSA to R Maeder Jnr, Colesberg DMT through City Coins in December 2005. All I knew about him was the entry on the QSA Medal Roll

Anthony,

A little information to help you.

There are 3 men of this name on the medal rolls for the QSA:

16 E Maeder, Colesberg District Mounted Troops
21 R Maeder Junior, Colesberg District Mounted Troops
Lt R H Maeder, Colesberg District Mounted Troops

There are no additional notes about them on the medal rolls.

Edward John Maeder, son of Robert and Charlotte Maeder, of Colesberg, was killed in action on the 17th October 1916.

Thanks to all for you information - I have now made contact with the Robert Maeder family line and am progressing.
I have also visited the Maeder family graves at Middelwater farm near Colesberg. Robert (snr) died in Cape Town in 1923 and is buried there in Maitland Cemetery.
