Hi,

This my first post here

Am trying to research Pte. W. Clover 5413 1st Essex Reg, 26th Mounted Infantry killed 16 Nov 1901 Swazi Border.

That was all I had until his dispersal of effects which gives him a Walter Clover son of Robert & Alice born Colchester, enlisted 16/03/89. I strongly suspect he was my great uncle, but my Walter would have only been 7 years old in 1889. It is possible '89 is a "typo" for '98' perhaps, and research has shown no other Walter Clovers that match,

Could anyone suggest where I could continue my research on this please?

Thanks

Geoff

Hi Geoff

Ancestry.co.uk gives him as Walter S Clover, born Oct 1882, Parents Robert and Alice from Colchester.

So go to Ancestry.co.uk, search for him and see what you can find further.

Hi Adrian,

Can I ask please where you found the record that gives the soldier's middle initial as 'S'? I am having no luck there.

My ancestor was Walter E Clover son of Robert S & Alice E Clover. Born 14 Oct 1882 in Colchester. Whilst I strongly believe 5413 is him, the Regimental Archives require stronger evidence, The 1889 date of enlistment on the disposal of effects is the stumbling point.

Thank you

Geoff

Hi Geoff

Sorry I made a typo, the S initial belongs to his father

Cheers Adrian
