Hello Meurig
I will try other venues for the time being and return to the Forum when I have some more information in addition to your advice regarding initials. The army number I have (5180) relates to his service as a Private in WW1 1914-1918 with The Kings Rifle Corps whilst in France when he was about 30-34 years old.
Best Regards
Allan

Hello Meurig
Just after my last posting I routed around this website and found an entry for a Shepherd WHG 289 Private The Kings Royal Rifle Corps who might be my Grandfather who later joined the KRRC in WW1,strange coincidence?? Found your name associated with Find My Past who had a J Shepherd listed when I used only the Shepherd surname as the search engine.

Hello Allan,

Interesting. Obviously you will need service papers for either man to prove a connection.

WHG Shepherd fought at Talana, a battle in October 1899.

Good luck with your research.

Hello Mike
Many thanks for your contribution, not sure if this was my Grandad but seems very coincidental that a WHG Shepherd joined the 1st Battalion KRRC and transferred to the 2nd and then sent home in late 1900 and then a W Shepherd joined the 2nd Battalion KRRC for WW2 1914-1918. As I mentioned to Meurig I wil look at other venues to see what I can find and come back to the Forum.
Best Regards

Hi Meurig
Hope all is well with you. It has been a long time not on the forum but still non the wiser about my Grandfathers military record within KRRC for WW1...where do I contact for his service record?

Don't think the WHG Shepherd mentioned was my Grandfather but still hoping to find some reference regarding his rumoured service in Boer War 1899-1902 when he would not be quite 15 years old.

Best Regards
Allan
