Hi everyone, I am trying to trace this mans number, j dodd 2nd cheshire regiment, for his time in the boer war, his ww1 medal index number 1177 listing cheshire , and royal engineers (sapper) could this have also been his boer war number,?, any help greatly appreciated, tonyrod

There was certainly a certain 5170 Corporal J Dodd in the 2nd Cheshire who did serve in South Africa during the war.

found him ,John Henry Dodd 1177,

Well, you did say 2nd Cheshire Regiment and of course, that particular man, could not have possibly served in that regiment.

Named on Crewe's Boer War memorial is a Sapper J.H. Dodd of the 2nd Cheshire Royal Engineers (Railway Volunteers).
