Yes the Hovell account especially the section from the diary of No.4399 Private Thomas Ford, 2nd Battalion, which gave a description of the battle.....
Also here is a definition of adjutant......
In the British Army, an Adjutant is usually a senior captain (sometimes a major). As the colonel's personal staff officer, he was once in charge of all the organisation, administration and discipline for a battalion or regiment.....
He would have to serve in this position for advancement, normally also 2nd in command......
