Hi, I was wondering where I can get any information on my Grandfatherf William Henry Talbot. I have a computer copy of the "Roll of individuals who were entiltled to the Queens medal" and I found his name in the nominal roll on this site. I am trying to get some info on him as he died in 1918 and the family never kept any records. I was also wondering if the medal he was entitled to was ever issued to him as again the family can't recall ever seeing one.
Many thanks
Rob

All surviving rank and file Imperial Light Horse papers are in WO126/55-65 at Kew, so that would certainly make a good starting point as far as any service with the ILH during the war.

Interestingly, I note WO100/250 gives his initials as WH, whilst WO100/238 suggests they were actually WR, notwithstanding, his ILH number is shown in the latter as well as having actually served in the BSAP too.

Good heavens, I certainly don't think that is in anyway unfortunate, perhaps, from your own point of view, what might be very unfortunate is that (and I'm looking at your original post) WO100/238 suggests his medal was returned to the mint on the 11th of May 1908, in which case, unless it was misappropriated, it is far less likely to exist today.

Granddad never served in the BSAP, after leaving South Africa he went up to Rhodesia where he worked on the mines as an accountant (I believe) he met my Grandmother at this time and they got married. My Dad was born in 1907 and they moved through to the Sabi MIne. Granddad died from arsenic poisoing whilst on the Champion Mine just outside Gwanda.
