Hello Katie

There is plenty of help available here. What site did you get that from?

My recommendation is to get the medal roll from Ancestry and check for service papers on FindmyPast.

Katieb,

There are papers for him either avaiiable online at cost or at the National Archives for free. These include his service papers which probably include 4 pages of details about his life in the army.

I would recommend obtaining a copy of these as they will give you a great start.

Good luck
David

Hi Katie - Findmypast has 11 pages of service papers including discharge documents for him which can be viewed and downloaded for a fee. Depending on where you live you can do this free of charge at the National Archives in Kew. He was also awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal (DCM) for Pieter's Hill, the last battle in the campaign to relieve Ladysmith, which adds much interest to his story.
