He died 04-05-1902 in Kirkee, India. From Soldier's Effects, Ancestry (and probably on his service papers which I have not checked).

In the Royal Artillery Library (now in store on Salisbury Plain) there is a 12 page Digest of Service, aka "war diary" for 18 battery.

Thank you so much for this, that does fill one of the gaps I have and that is when he died. His last letter was dated 11th April (and good health), the next communication was from G Shaw advising of his death (post mortem showed his 'kidneys were completely gone'). The letters mention every engagement and overnight stay so I will work my way through the names one by one. I assume the Digest you mention is not open for public viewing? It would certainly be good to cross-check what I think is written. Thank you again - most helpful
