I always liked medals to the Fighting Fifth (NF) and this afternoon I had a look in Stirling's "Our Regiments in South Africa" to see if the action at Lichtenburg on 3/3/01 was mentioned. It certainly was - and I attach pics of the relevant paragraphs covering the action -

In 1901 census is a 16 year old brushmaker living with parents Frederick and Emma Francis in Red Lion Street, Norwich.
He cannot be the Charles George Francis, who is Private 3579 , 1st Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers.

Yes Im starting to see this. Funny though that my Father told me a few years ago about my Grandfather's injury ?? I will have to spend some money and look into his past

My Father told me that Charles George was involved in this war, he obviously wasnt. Im not an expert in researching military, a complete amateur in fact.
