Yes, I believe it is confirmed he was with the 11th.
He died in 1948, 12 days before I was born. Linda is my sister and did a great amount of research at Kew. We are both stateside now so physical research is less possible but I think she has already pursued that.
The photograph definitely shows two good arms. It is seeming more plausible the picture was taken before he deployed and he may have borrowed a sash in anticipation of promotion to full sergeant while overseas.
As for MR, I was going on the fact he did not get an MR bar and also on this;
The battalion was not in the action at Modder River on 28th November, having been detailed to guard the railway.
