Hello Kelvin
Welcome to the forum.
Do you have Private Risdon's QSA ? With the clasps you have mentioned?
I found 2 medal rolls. 1 dated July 1902 for Modder River clasp
And the other roll was dated May 1904. This roll states 4180 Private A Risdon was entitled to Cape Colony and Transvaal. Written above those clasp awarded mark's are Paardeberg and Driefontein. Interestingly there is no mark for a date bar and a No against a KSA.
Have you purchased this medal with clasps you mentioned in your original post?
I have had a quick look at alternative spelling of his surname but nothing for A&S Highlanders.
Do you have anymore details on your man ?

So, the QSA you have has the clasps you posted securely or loosely fitted?
Laings Nek
Transvaal
Relief of Ladysmith
Orange Free State
Tugela Heights

Difficult with no extra detail on the recipient. IMHO the medal should reflect the rolls you have. If you have a google search on the regiment during the Boer War you should be able to place the battalion and their actions. Modder River, Driefontein and Paardeberg for sure.
Cape Colony, Transvaal and Orange Free State also and I think maybe Diamond Hill & Johannesburg..
However, we need a Forum member to help out with Laings Nek, Tugela Heights and Relief of Ladysmith, as these may not be correct. But you are certainly in the right place for answers. Hope my fellow forummers can help with this one?

Hi Kelvin
Had a trawl through about a dozen random names relating to the Argyle Sutherland Highlanders.
Couldn't find any recipients regarding Tugela, Laings Nek or Relief of Ladysmith.

Then I did the same search with a random names from the East Surrey Regiment and quite a few recipients were awarded Tugela, Laings and RoL.
A medal mystery indeed.
