Hi Neville and Colm
Yet another regiment and a great coincidence of member’s ancestors serving together. How many times has this been discovered via ABW ?
Look forward to seeing some pictures
Thanks
Clive

Thanks Dave - very useful indeed!
I'm starting to grasp some of the twists in this war, which helps to make sense of it.

Thanks Dave.
He was born in Dublin, but until after WW1 spent some years in Glasgow before settling back in Dublin. Have little definite further knowledge, sadly.

Here is a photograph of the 3rd Field Troop, Royal Engineers, with my great grandfather, Major Gerard Heath, and Lieutenant Walker in the foreground.

I have counted 37 officers and men in this image, which closely matches the 39 names included on the QSA roll (excluding those who died during the siege). Sapper O'Rourke is almost certainly one of the men pictured.

Some of the work carried out by Sapper O'Rourke, while attached to Lord Dundonald's 3rd Mounted Brigade on the march north to Pretoria, and thence northeast towards Lydenburg, Sabie and Pilgrim's Rest. This included such work as repairing roads and railway lines, building bridges, preparing water supplies, etc., etc....

.Repairing the railway line at Vlakfontein
