We are both currently retired and living in London so have put our minds to researching our past. My grandfather's two brothers, Stainbank, died in the Great War(WW1). One is buried in Lancashire and the other at Ypres in Belgium. I have yet to visit. His cousin was the magistrate killed in the Bambatha rebellion. This really an interesting way to spend these cold UK winter days. Thanks again and bless you.

An interesting post Theodore - I have the medal to HM Stainbank, the Magistrate killed in the Bambatha Uprising to which you make reference - see here www.angloboerwar.com/forum/5-medals-and-...ersonal-escort#45694

Thank you Rory
I knew about Magistrate HM Stainbank's death but didn't realise how close to my family he was and have read quite a bit about him. Given SA's past we never ever met our white family until fairly recently which was really really wonderful. Even the WW1 deaths were unknown yo me until fairly recently.
Best wishes
Theo
