Hi,

I was looking for a little more information on one of my relatives on my mothers side 3415/241062 Samuel Henry Lomas and noticed he didn't appear on your medal roll.

He won the DCM for his actions in 1916 during the Dublin Easter uprising.

Very interesting chap KIA 2/6th Battalion Notts & Derby during the attack on QUARRIES and COLOGNE FARM on the 27th April 1917

Hello Spree Farm

How sure are you that his regimental number 3415 is correct?
Could it be 7495?
Is it possible your mother's relative Samuel served with the 2nd Derbyshire's Volunteer Battalion during the Boer War. If so, he may have been attached to the Notts and Derbys.

Hi Dave,

Morning Dave,

Please find attached copies of his Samuel Henry Lomas's service records.

I know the person who owns his medals and the man that wrote the book about his time in Ireland.

He was the CSM present during the executions of the Irish rebels

Many thanks for the information.
The service papers you provided reference to his 1914 Territorial papers.
Have a browse through these.

With reference to his time in South Africa .
If his service number was 3415 he would have joined the Foresters in 1882.
If you know the chap with the QSA medal I would love to know what number is etched on the rim.
Also, as for your original post, sometimes transcribed numbers were made in error and some lists are incomplete. However, the medal rolls for 7495 are recorded. I couldn't find a match regarding 3415.

Sherwood Foresters regimental number allocations

Either way, we are only talking about a regimental number. He served his time in South Africa and Ireland and a DCM to boot. Alas, he paid the ultimate price in 1917 serving in a regiment he dearly loved. So, I don't think an error in a 4 digit service number is an issue. I will upload the medal rolls from Ancestry for your records later today. As to why they are missing from the forum list? I do not have an answer. However, sometimes when transferring information errors do occur.

I have not seen these papers before, they are amazing and has information I had not seen before.

The guy that who has his medals is about to sell them and they are at Noonans for valuation.

I have this in my collection. (Walking out uniform) Love to have the medals to go with it.

David
