the wood-grain embossing effect on the surface is another clue that leatherwork is post-ABW.
MC Heunis told me the process dates from after 1902.
The past is not dead. In fact, it's not even past.

Spot on Rob,

The Pattern 1901 bandolier shown has Martins of Birmingham markings, along with the date 1906.
This also indicates that the 1901 bandoliers continued to be made/distributed long after the introduction of the 1903 pattern.

For comparison, what would a 1904 Vigueiro Mauser bandolier have looked like? Or was it just a blatant copy of the standard 7x57 Mauser bandolier.
Thank you;

I expect that this bandolier would look like the UDF marked Mauser bandolier, previously shown, due to their use of the 1904 Vigueiro Mauser.
I also apologize for accidently creating this topic in the introductions category.

Here are two examples of a Mauser type bandolier I have seen recently. They have different buckles and only have 8 pouches. Both do not seem to have any markings. What could these be?

No idea. With the exception of the Naval Brigade, the roller-type buckle is something I don’t recall seeing on any other form of bandolier from the ABW period (Boer or British). I wonder whether these bandoliers could have been made for one of the SA cadet corps. I note the first example was sold on Bob Shop, so is presumably of South African origin.
