Hello Brian,

In case you do not have this document, this is a copy of his attestation papers for the ILH

Thank you to all who have posted information, it has been a help to my research. I attach files which I have for William McKelvin. The photo shows him in the ILH uniform. (sitting). I have the bandolier he is wearing.
The man standing is his brother, Jock McKelvin. I looked for his name in the nominal roll and saw it as "McIlvain" badly written/spelt. The record then shows "McKelvin" but not too clearly. The story is that their name was corrupted when they immigrated to South Africa. I have other papers showing the name as McIlvain. My grandfather, William McKelvin, chose to use the corrupted version which continued to this day. I can only surmise that Jock McKelvin still attempted to use the correct spelling.

Excellent images, Brian, thank you.

We do not see many examples of discharge certificates which many would have received.
