Hello Moocher.....

Your man is on the medal roll.... He served with the 17th Field Company, the clasps Orange Free State and Transvaal were issued off the 31st Field Company Roll.... Sent to "G" Company and then Army Reserve..... KSA sent to him 19.08.03......

Good evening,
This man has four entries in WO100, he can be found in WO100/156 page 136, this is the QSA roll of the 17th Field Company RE, there is a note "Trans (transferred) to G Coy RE.
He is also on WO100/157 page 77, this is the QSA roll of the 31st Company RE, which confirms his TH and RL clasps, in addition, a note, "Previously served 17th Coy"
He is shown in WO100/157 page 80 which is the supplementary roll of the "Late 31st" Company RE, next to his name, a note, "Kings Med & Cl (KSA) issued 8/8/03, in addition, in the remarks column, "17 Coy tranferred to 8th Coy 4/8/02"
Then he is shown in WO100/313 page 67, which is the KSA roll of the 8th Company RE, with a note "Transferred to AR (army reserve) 18/1/03.
Hope this helps you, regards Frank

Hi moorcherlen
And welcome to the forum.
In answer to your question on the naming, I think the engraved style was normal for the Royal Engineers.
Below is a link to the different naming styles

Gentlemen,
As I understand it, early issues of QSA's to the RE, Cavalry and Strathcona's etc, were engraved, because after the enemies capitals were taken and the war was thought to be over, the WO said, okay lets get the medals out, by which time the war was indeed all over the country! :(
When they realised that the war was far from over, they decided that in future only officers medals would be engraved because of the large numbers involved who would be able to claim them, but of course even after that there were very many officers who recieved impressed medals.

Good Morning Frank....

Sorry to say Frank but the Strathcona's medals were never engraved they were impressed including the officers..... The way that you can tell an early issue of the medal to the Strath's is that the apostrophe between the "a's" is inverted....
