Hello Dorothy,

My grandfather also appears to have enlisted under a false name. It may not have been such an uncommon thing at that time. In my grandfather's case, there was a family story to the effect that he was under age and used forged or bought identity documents to enlist. I wish you success in your quest.

Regards,

Graham

Dear Dorothy,

Thank you for posting this topic - how very interesting a father and son having served together in the 6th Battalion The Royal Warwickshire Regiment, a Militia Regiment that volunteered for service in South Africa.

A synopsis of the Battalion's services in the Boer War can be found in 'An Epitomised History of the Militia "The Constitutional Force"' by Colonel George Jackson Hay, published in 1908.

Best wishes,

Justin

Dear Justin
Thank you for your reply. I wonder if you can tell me where I might be able to obtain a copy of the above.
It sounds as if it might be very useful for my research.
Thanks
Dorothy

I would just google it, you may just find a copy, I think it is one of those books that you will either just drop on or one that you may never find!
