Thanks for all your help! And no...I don't miss the British Snow/cold/rain!

I did find the papers on FindMyPast and I'm glad to discover that he made it back to Scotland alive, especially as the letter we have reads as a goodbye letter to his family almost, telling his mum that he has sorted his will and that men are dying all over the place of thirst. It makes the war so much more real when you read letters such as these and realize what these men went through.

Agreed. These letters bring home the war and its effects in a much more real way than do the official pictures and accounts.
