At the TNA Kew, prefix is used to group files together, WO is War Office, WO100 are the QSA/KSA medal rolls, WO126 are Attestation and Discharge papers for the various South African units raised for service during the war.
Yes, he would have enlisted into the Uitenage VR after the seige of Kimberley.

Oooooh now I get it!!!

Thank you for explaining - gosh but you need lots of patience as 'some of us' are a bit slow when it comes to understanding what's going on ;)

Its midnight here - will have to do a bit of reading up in the morning.

Once again thank you for your patience.

Regards
Sharon

Hello
Can you tell me if the enclosed pic is the uniform of the Kimberly Guard. I know he was in this regiment but unsure if this is the uniform. Also can you tell me if the Koffiefontein mounted infantry has anything to do with the town guards

I know zero about the military so any help would be great
thanks
June

David's book about the Kimberley Siege shows Percy Lloyd KING as in Kimberley Light Horse; served 19Oct99 to 23Mar00. Also served in KTG. Previous service in 2nd Life Guards (2389). David also shows him as a Lt. in Koffiefontein Defence Force and the Kaffrarian Rifles. There is a spread of service there and hopefully some papers might still survive. The "uniform" shown in the pic does not look too much like any in David's book. The rifle Percy Lloyd KING is holding is a Mauser M93 "Spanish Pattern" type in calibre 7mm. This was not a British issue, of course; however many took them as trophies. The dog is a nice touch.
Good luck with your quest.

Yes, that is the one! Excellent book it is. Can be obtained via Token Publishing (in which I have no interest) or possibly through special order via your book shop.
