If you are in the UK, it would be possible to visit the National Archives where you see the source documents, all for free! I can also recommend the coffee bar in the restaurant.

PS The second match Thomas Apps did serve in the Army but not in the Boer War so JM is a more likely match?

PPS It will cost you less than £7 to view the papers on line. That must be a tempting prospect??

Yes indeed it is a tempting offer. We will be doing this probably tomorrow now as no chance of a second snow day LOL!!! So i need to get some beauty sleep!! It has really helped as we had more or less narrowed it down to JM Apps, this looks like it could be the one.
