Hello Frank many thanks again for the information you have provided. No I have not got a death plaque but i have 2 old photos which I copied ,printed and framed some years ago. They were taken in York in 1914 one in uniform sitting to attention on his horse and the other standing holding a sword and in different type of headgear.In both pics he is wearing a medal which I presume is the Transvaal one.The medal and ribbon is pretty shabby and the ribbon has some red spots on it which may or not be blood

Well, he certainly would not have worn his his QSA on his tunic whilst at the front in 1914, they had other matters to deal with, a shame about the plaque, have you asked around the family, another member might have it, they were not sent with the Great War medals.
I have always liked the British cavalry, by the end of the 19th century they were years ahead and far better than their European counterparts, anyway, I hope you will look after his medals

i cant remember where the medals came from , presume my mother got them from her mother. They did not know of any relations on his side
it would be nice if someone who had been related was a reader of this site
