Okay Alan,
So as you can see he was part of the Ladysmith garrison, the last train to leave for the south did so on the 2nd of November 1899 and then the awful siege began!
Brett Hendey is our man in Natal and you should talk to him, both 1st and 2nd KRRC were very heavily engaged during the period in question here they did well.

Well, I would if I was you, a number of 2nd Battalion KRRC were actually on the western end of the Platrand ridge on the 6th of January 1900 with, from memeory, Major Gore-Brown, their own little fight was a very desparate one, talk to Brett and perhaps the Rifles Museum in Winchester.
