Hello All
Thanks for adding me to the page, my main interest in the Boer war is through my great grandfather who was there with the kings regiment Lancaster, through looking at the site I have all ready found a lot of interesting information, he holds the ghost QSA with the clasps south Africa 1901, Transvaal, relief of lady smith, orange free state, tugela heights and cape colony.
I would like too know more about the areas he was in and if he is missing any decorations I did try the regimental museum but some of there records were destroyed

his name is William a.h shepherd regt no4757 born in London about 1876 I've heard several storeys about how he came to join and possibly lying about certain facts age being one of them as his parents wanted him to join to family business he finished his time in the army at Bowerham Barracks in Lancaster as a c.s.m, strangely I bumped into a old soldier in a British legion in Morecambe some years ago who had been a drummer boy in his company who remembered him quite well, my brother who is older than me now holds his medals and collar badges my mother still has his tin of chocolates that where given too them, I believe a xmas present from queen Victoria in 1900, I also believe unopened as he wasn't a big chocolate eater.
I would appreciate any information on him as it would help fill in gaps on his early life

The Supplementary Roll (WO100/168p201) shows that he was invalided home from the 2nd Royal Lancaster Regiment on 24 Oct 1901.

WO100/168p115 shows his other clasps to be Relief of Ladysmith, Tugela Heights and Transvaal.

He gained the South Africa 1901 clasp from the Supplementary Roll.

There are no existing service papers for him to 1913. He only received one medal for the Boer War. When you mentioned his medals, what others did he receive?

he also received the lsgc, l don't think any one alive in the family knew he had been injured, is there any information on how or which part of the war he was injured? I think he may have gone with the regiment to Dublin but we have no proof, I do know he was in Plymouth for a while and that during the first world war he was at depot in Lancaster.
Thanks for the information, I did speak to the regimental museum at Lancaster and they said some of his records were destroyed in a fire during ww2. That does close one thing though during a records search I carried out I found some one same name and initials who had served in the 4queens hussars who had been in hospital in Aldershot for an injury so I can rule out that from his back ground, I had my doubts as the regimental numbers were different, but I know that he had wanted to join the cavalry originally.
