The Registered number looks to me to be "91818". Using your list as a guide, that would date the Brooch to the late 1880's. That would fit in with the depiction of the Martini Rifles.

That is 1888 to 1889 but I wonder if there is a number hidden under the pin.......

The registry number is #641818 and I just noticed that this is a Birmingham mark so it is 1914 not 1910 (That's the flu for you). So the mint mark with the registry number would fall into the late 1914 period. This would be a bit closer to the 60th anniversary of Balaclava (25th October 1914). I can't find a Birmingham maker T.H (or even T✠H).

By late 1914 there was another war dominating the headlines so I wouldn't be surprised if this received a muted reception or even an aborted one.

1914 does put it back in line with the original story of Mary Of Teck but now the only solid thing we have is a date, rather than a purpose.

Maybe should have copied more of the numbers.......
