This silver example is edge-engraved: "W.V. BRITTON" (ex Ken Griffith collection)
The only W.V. Britton I have been able to find living in Kimberley at the time is Walter Vernon Britton, who would have been 3 or 4 years old in 1900. He was the son of Lieutenant William Delamere Britton, commander of Section III, "A" Company, Beaconsfield Town Guard (see "Diamond Fields Advertiser / The Siege of Kimberley", p. 80).
I do not know whether William Delamere Britton was a Councillor.
A long shot, but does anyone here happen to have a list of Beaconsfield Town Councillors at the time? I have written to Kimberley about this, but received no reply.
As I understand it, their names are recorded in the Beaconsfield Town Council Minutes of 27th November, 1900.
