I remember seeing that medal a few years ago and wondered what had happened to it. I am pleased that it found a good home!

That's a really nice example of a tribute medal Anthony. It looks like they went to a lot of trouble to engrave it so neatly and extensively. Do you think this reflect the strong feelings of pride and relief that their boys were back home?

This is an absolutely fantastic "un-recorded" tribute medal.....

I do have to throw a little water on the fire though..... There have been a number of these that have been faked..... I am not saying this one is..... But with the value of silver the way it is some unscrupulous people have been taking blank medallions and having them engraved in an old style..... Unless the person selling does the engraving it is quite hard to keep a secret between two..... On a number of other forums there have been a couple of threads..... I have a tribute medal where this has been done.....

The best way to verify the medal is to find a local newspaper or minuets of the town / city council and see if there is a write up about the medal or the presentation..... This would have big news in the community so I am sure that it would be recorded somewhere....

All that said.....

I would still love to have this one in my collection.....

If this is indeed the medal I remember, it has a "safe" provenance, having turned up on a fleamarket in Durban several years ago and acquired in a job lot for very little money. I made enquiries about it for the then owner and it excited some interest. A Gordon Highlanders collector abroad was very keen to have it, but evidently Anthony's radar came into play and the medal stayed in Durban.

Like Brett says, the provenance is safe and I can assure you everything is 100% ok. The patina is constant throughout the medal and the toning in-between the engraving and the rest of the medal is also constant.

It is one of the better made tribute medals I have seen made.
