Great site, first post here but have looked over of the many extremely interesting topics on the forum here over the past while. Thought I would try and give something of use back ! I picked up this tribute medal along with a number of his sports medals. Finding it a little hard to research. It is not my own area of interest but I thought that somebody might be recording examples such as this and would like to see it.

Sir
1018 Pte. Herbert Victor Callender served in 5VMR (of course as shown on the medal). Unit enrolled 021901, eight coys of MI. Departed 15021901 45 officers and 971 other ranks. Info from Murray's "Official Records of Aus. Military contingents to the war in SA". After a rocky start at Wilmansrust, the unit proved to be very useful in the guerilla phase of the war. I understand that a quite good summary of all OZ units in ABW will be found in Stirling's "The Colonials in South Africa" on this site.
I really don't have to tell you that you have a very nice little item there.
Did you manage to get his QSA (likely bars CC/OFS/TV/01/02)?
Regards IL.

Thank you very much for posting this previously unknown Boer War Tribute medal. The Rupanyup tribute does not appear in Bill Hibbard's 'Boer War Tribute Medals' (1982) so it is very interesting to see this.

Best wishes,

Justin

There are many Tribute Medals / Medalions / Watches &c that are missing from Hibbard's...... I understand that this book was put together from his own personal collection..... No problem with that it is just great to see all the new ones showing up and I hope that some day in the future that someone will do a new book.....

In addition to the three state clasps he also got an SA01 from their supplementary roll.

SpectemurAgendo,

That's a nice way to join the forum!

I have made a slight change to your post to insert the images in the post rather than having to click to view them. It is a lovely piece and this change makes it a little easier to see and appreciate.

Best wishes
David
