A recent addition to the badge collection.
The Royal Munster Fusiliers had a sketch of a proposed design for the FSC badge approved on 22nd July 1897.
It was sealed on 20th April 1898.
The badge is bi-metal and was fitted with North and South loops, it was authorised for wear on the FSC and the FSH
By 1902 there were several changes in headdress which effected the need for changes to badges.
The Slouch hat and forage cap required a slider or vertical shank to be introduced.

Indeed Frank,

I have been corresponding with a very knowledgeable BBF member.
He was kind enough to send me some detailed information on the RMF.
I saw this one for sale on the BBF and he assured me it was a good one ;)

Cheers
Paul :)

Well, it is a "good" one, but, the fsc was actually carried into battle and things like this have turned up on the battlefields in South Africa, even, as late as the 1970's, I would actually doubt very much that it was ever worn on the fsh actually during the war, but, then this particular regiment had no plate centre to wear either and when worn on the very practical slouch hat, again actually during the war, it would certainly not have had a slider, the home service dress that came in after the war, did include the ever popular slouch hat, made in various differing shades for the various regiment and corps and some of these badges worn on them, would indeed, have had a slider
