That is a British made shoulder title, worn in anger, during the Great War, in Egypt and indeed, on the Western Front, the regiment had a very distinctive cap badge, made here too, nothing whatsoever, to do with either the CMI, or, for that matter, the Anglo Boer War.

Thank you for that.

If I'm looking at it right this is 'MR' for Mounted Rifles - is (Mounted) Rifles the same as (Mounted) Infantry then?

Or were they separate units?

Cheerio,

Roy

Hello Frank,

Thank you for that, as always I appreciate your input.

So If I have this correctly - the CMR were indeed a different unit to the CMI - the latter having seen service in the ABW, the former not.

So back to my original question - what insignia did the CMI wear during the ABW ?

Cheerio,

Roy

Gentlemen Good Morning......

The badge came with a framed QSA/KSA pair to CMI therefore assumed that it would have been worn by medal winner.....

The Ceylon Mounted Infantry wore "CMI" and "Ceylon MI" during the war.

Thank you again Frank,

Can I ask if anyone has an example or knows of a picture reference they could share?

I have looked through my limited research library (some books still packed) but cannot find any photos of such.

That is a British made shoulder title, as stated and certainly from memory, at least, given that they were not actually sealed until circa 1906, they were not worn in the Anglo Boer War.
(Actually, sealed, is not the appropriate term in this case, approved, would be a more accurate term.)
