For Roy:

Shown below are a Thorneycroft's Mounted Infantry slouch hat and shoulder title pair, to which I have added a variation of the shoulder title, perhaps a later manufacture and of poorer quality. The TMI pair and the BMI pair I showed on Roy's earlier Bethune's Mounted Infantry Badge post were probably from the same manufacturer and of the same vintage, i.e. made when the two regiments were raised in Natal.

Regards
Brett

A favourite Regiment of mine! My TMI is similar to Brett's lower example; save that it appears to have been made with more care (picking my words carefully here, Brett!). Illustrated in the Droogleever book, "Thorneycroft's Unbuttoned" is a very crude, cast brass TMI title. Tomorrow, I will post pics of my TMI title to show what I mean about it's finish.

As promised, here are a couple of pics of my TMI title. About 70 thou in thickness, it exhibits small differences alongside Brett's No.3.

I recall that it was found locally.

Hi Brett & Linneyl,

Thank you for sharing these, lovely examples and of course badges I am yet to find, so lovely to see here. Very interested to read your comments Brett, can't thank you enough for the 'free' eduction..:) :) :)

I like the stylized (seriffed) T on the middle example, a splendid detail.

It is really nice to see such variation of both these TMI and BMI badges, simplistic badges at first glance but when one looks a little closer thy become more interesting that one would first thing.

Cheers gents.

Cheerio,

Roy

Thank you for the pic of your badge. It is definitely different from my No. 3, and of much better quality, so it is another to search for.

Roy
While going through my small badge collection I was taken again by those of the Imperial Light Horse, my favourite regiment. Since you are new on this site, you may not have seen the earlier thread on ILH badges (see link below). On page 6 of the ILH badge thread there is a pic of a battlefield pick-up. Badge collecting does not get any better than that!

Thank you Brett,

A great thread, I can see I will have to go back and read it a few times just to absorb all the terrific information.
