Digging thru my photo collection I came across this one that I acquired north of Dundee in Jan 1993. Lightly written on the back in pencil is Lovats Scouts. Somewhere in my library shelves I have a small book on the history of the unit. I can't find it to compare with the uniform photos. The cloth bandolier and belt pockets are interesting. Note the Long Lee Mitford rifle.
Comments anyone ?

HI BP,

A cracking photo, well done and thanks for sharing.

Can I ask for a close-up scan of the collar insignia? I think it might be interesting to see these.

Cheerio,

Roy

Hi RoyS
Just back home from a looooong Dr Visit (of my wife's) so when I rest up I will dig out the pic and see if I can enlarge. I seem to recall the collars are not clear but are round !!?? How can that be. I need to look out the Unit History and see. I do recall that not only was the photo labeled on the rev, but Stan Paget was with me when I bought it and he said it was so. To me, Stan was THE expert on this stuff.
Thanks for the compliment. (Money is accepted in lieu of)

This is the best I was able to do as the photo is not clear enough to enlarge. The device appears round like a button. I seem to recall reading that a button was sometimes used if the Collar Badges were unavailable.
Having said all this, I will shortly post a photo of a Scottish Horse Trooper taken in Scotland with the Badge on the slouch hat. It is somewhat clearer in that the St. Andrews Cross is evident.

Thanks for your efforts BP.

It's always worth a go but as you well know, where old photos are concerned rarely an easy task.

Looking forward to your other photos!

Roy

My face is RED ! I decided to check Kipling & King and discovered the Lovats Scouts Badge is round, Stag Head and Motto. So the photo must show the proper shaped badge but unrecognizable. My confusion is related to the fact that on the reference table next the I-Pad is a tray of Badges, I must have been looking at the Fife & Forfar Badge.

Promise I will display the other photos tomorrow.
