It was a shocking experience, there I was, about to enjoy afternoon tea and the wretched thing just appeared, appalling table manners, it had clearly decided it was teatime, joined me and just helped itself!

No. it is certainly not Anglo Boer War, I assume you know what you have there, a die cast example, does it have Firmin on it's reverse.
I think you will find it is more likely to be a Capra family, Ibex, type thing, the beard is the giveaway, not something you would expect on the Hippotragus family, unless perhaps, a particularly scruffy one, who has lost interest in it's career and really let itself go!
