Thank you so much David, I have now found that information. What I really want to find is Edward's family information hence the interest in his uniform. His story is just beyond living memory, as it were.

Hello Dave, Just following on from our discussion last week. I have confirmed Edward Murphy b.1880, Wife Ellen and children on the Nova Scotia Census for 1911. I may have found a record for the same Edward Murphy in Ireland, however, the Irish records have his year of Christening as 1878. The parents & location fit though. (Castlemitchell or Athy, Co. Kildare, Ireland) Could you suggest where I might look for military records from here? I believe you mentioned in an earlier message that the location might help pinpoint his regiment. Any help greatly appreciated!

Bingo, I think we may have found him?

Edward Murphy 18647 Royal Artillery.
Attestation 1897. No service in the Boer War. He was posted to Bermuda and then he was shipped off to Halifax Nova Scotia in 1899 until 1909.

Dave.......
You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.
Best regards,

Dear Dave
I can't express how grateful I am. Edward Murphy deserves to be remembered. His untimely death had a profound and lasting effect on his family. My mother and her older brother will see each other in June after quite some time, they're in their 80's and unfortunately both in ill health. They'll be so happy to see this information.
Edward should have been in this photograph with his wife Ellen, daughter Winni and 3 grandchildren (the eldest was himself in the military, fighter pilot RCAF). Thank you.
Kindest regards
Stephanie Matthews
