Neville and Rob, here are some additional photos. The scabbard is steel. The bayonet fits in it like a glove.

Certainly not the usual regulation P1888 scabbard.

After scouring Google a bit, I see what you mean, certainly doesn't look like the regulation scabbard. Frog seems correct though?

Yes, the frog looks fine - though the same basic design was in use from 1880s to 1940s - see www.karkeeweb.com/patterns/1903/componen...iated_equipment.html
The scabbard is from another bayonet altogether, possibly German or European?
