Neville - thanks for the correction to my first suggestion - I should have picked up the all important word of "siege" and when searching through the 39 officers listed by the London Times I was over focussed on looking for RFA and overlooked the following: "R A Captain C C Robertson, 2nd Lieutenants C A H Campbell, RE Harman".

Laura - regarding my second suggestion I am 50% right. Looking at Sect 12 again it actually says Richard was living in Bermondsey, London and Harry was in the Royal Artillery. This is confirmed by me being unable to find any attestation papers/service records for a Richard Prime but I have found a set for 88147 Gunner Harry Prime of the RA who enlisted in 1892 and served overseas in India & Aden. I need to electronically shrink them before posting them.

David.

Thank you so much David, so it looks as if I have more homework to do on Harry now too. I agree, I think that could well be him in the Calcutta photograph, one part of the mystery put to rest! I need to study the records more closely, it was a surprise to see that both brothers had 'scars on right cheek' very coincidental...I wish my family had got into the habit of writing on the back of photographs, but too late now! Thank you again for your help in my research, invaluable information from this Forum.

Hi Neville,
Many thanks for sending me this information. So it looks as if he sailed on The Orotava? I had a trawl through various shipping lists yesterday and thought it might have been The Gascon, but the dates didn't really seem to match up...so thank you for the clarification.
