A word of warning about a fake Z.A.R. JOHANNESBURG VRIJWILLIGER CORPS HORSE MARTINGALE BADGE which appeared on Bid or Buy. www.bidorbuy.co.za/item/5676...99_BROKEN.html
The monogam in the centre differs from the ZARP one and it is thought to be a fantasy piece.

The past is not dead. In fact, it's not even past.

Rob, Neville great items!. Rob, I think the item you show as fake might actually be worth a punt. Why would anyone go through the trouble of creating a piece like this? The letter looks like a K, perhaps Krugersdorp. Good luck to the buyer....

The central Krugersdorp Vrijwilliger Corps monogram looks good to me. The casting of the Transvaal motto and eagle, on the other hand, is dismal and surely can't be right. I can't work out whether the centre is a genuine piece that has been incorporated into a recast, or whether the whole ensemble has been made as one. If the latter, why is the casting of the "KVC" so much crisper?

Owen lists a very similar martingale badge for the Johannesburg Vrijwilliger Corps:

Below is a Johannesburg Vrijwilliger Corps button with similar monogram.

I have recently joined the Forum to make contact with Brett Hendey - an old friend from 1964 when I was an archaeologist at UCT - if he is still around. I am visiting Cape Town to see my family and would like to call him if possible. I note however that his last post on this site was in 2022 and am concerned. I would really appreciate one of his colleagues getting back to me.
Thanks

David,

I have passed on your concerns to the owner of the site, Dr David Biggins.

Hopefully he will be able to help.

Regards,
Neville
