Just came across this reference to khaki, in an article about the departure of 12735 Trooper William Pittaway, 71st (Sharpshooters) Company, 18th Bn. Imperial Yeomanry. It is interesting in that it describes the darker drab serge as "winter khaki". This makes sense, as "serge" was made from wool, while "khaki drill" was cotton.
