A correspondent in Maritzburg writes: 'Traction engines have been pressed into service by the military for transport purposes and the unwieldy-looking machines have largely taken the place of ox waggons with their long teams. But never before were the engines put to such a peaceful and happy purpose as when they were used the other day to drag waggon loads of refugee children into the country for a treat.'
