QSA (2) Defence of Mafeking, Transvaal (Serjt: S. Nettle. Bechuanaland R.);

Described as: 'Samuel Nettle of the Bechuanaland Rifles is confirmed on the medal rolls; he is additionally entitled to the King’s South Africa medal with 2 clasps. A man of this name is also on the roll of the Mafeking Town Guard. Ex Sotheby’s, 1 March 1984 ‘An old collection of campaign medals’ lot 95, £620; Spink, May 1984.'

M&E say 'James Henry Edward May of the Bechuanaland Rifles is confirmed on the medal roll and served during the Second Anglo-Boer War. Recalled to service in the Great War, he saw action in German South West Africa with the 7th S.A.I., and was later twice wounded in action in France while serving with the South African Service Corps.'
