Jim,

That is a fantastic group. Joseph Grindon Rogers served BVC/PLH 16 June 1901 to 4 July 1902 and CinCBG 11 November 1900 to 20 May 1901, both attestation and discharge in Kimberley for CinCBG.

Prior to the CinCBG, he served as SSM in the Rhodesia Regiment 10 August 1899 to 4 October 1900. His Rhodesia clasp is shown on WO100/266p265.

This is the group to S. Midgley, 2nd Qld Cont, BVC, PLH, Roystons Hse & 5 LHR etc.
He was the only officer in the BVC/PLH to be awarded the D.S.O. He was awarded a CMG for WW!.
Please note: The medals are on display at the Marybrough Colonial &Military Museum. They are not a part of my collection.

Some more on Lt.Col. S. Midgley CMG, DSO.

Midgley left Queensland with the 2nd Contingent. When the unit departed for Australia he stayed on and joined the Bushveldt Carbineers as a Lieut. When it disbanded he joined the Pietersburg LH and was the only officer to be awarded a DSO with that unit. Stayed in SA after the war finished and served with Royston’s Horse and awarded the Natal medal. Returned to Aust in early 1914 and appointed Sqn OC (Billy Sing was one of his soldiers) with the 5th LHR. Awarded CMG for Gallipoli and in 1916 appointed CO of the 54th Bn on the Western Front.

On Gallipoli he was admonished for having a sawn off shotgun which he would take with him when leading raids on Turkish trenches.

It appears that the Turks made an official complaint about the gun and said it was not part of accepted warfare.
The above bio was supplied by the Marybrough Colonial & Military Museum.

Thank you for posting those images and information. Very French of him to identify the number of MIDs received.
