Hi Steve, I have put the photo on the alveley group page, everyone is really interested.
Are there just two medals ??. They look in really good condition, have they been kept in a box ?

Hi Margaret,
There are just the two medals, Queen's South Africa and King's South Africa.
I would assume that while Herbert was alive he and his surviving relatives would have cherished them. Once they were sold outside of the family to a collector they would, again, have been carefully looked after judging by their present condition.
It is great that they are generating so much interest locally.

QSA (1) Cape Colony (2884 Pte J Tolley Worcester Regt.)

He died of disease 30 January 1900 at Slingersfontein.

Served with 2nd battalion.

QSA verified on WO100/184p144.

No service papers.

A rewarding session at Lockdales today!
Both QSAs to Tolley and Jones are coming back to Worcestershire!
Full papers online for Jones. Nothing for Tolley so far.
