Hello Sturgy

It is strange that the Belmont clasp is missing from your QSA. Alas, it may have changed hands many times. The 2 clasps you have, may have been added by the recipient or a family member may have wished to add them with his single Belmont clasp. It's very possible he served in those areas? Place of the Battle of Belmont:  On the western border of the Orange Free State, north west of Cape Colony.
He wouldn't be the 1st soldier to add a couple of state clasps. It's a shame the earned clasp was missing.

As you previously mentioned we probably will never know what happened to the clasp. Will you purchase a Belmont clasp and add it to your QSA? or will you leave it as purchased?

Hi Dave F,

Thanks for that; to be honest I'm torn between leaving it as is and restoring the Belmont clasp (only).

Thanks to the forum I now know what the clasp entitlement was (should be).

I think I may leave it for now and see what I decide to do in a few years :)

Regards,
Sturgy

A. Pool was a native of Scarborough, Yorkshire. He served during the Boer War with the 1st Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers, and was killed in action at Belmont, 23 November 1899. On the latter date the Northumberland Fusiliers and the Yorkshire Light Infantry had been tasked with the capture of Table Mountain, and met stiff resistance. The Boers had built sangars on the slopes and the two battalions were forced to clear these whilst under enfilade fire from a hitherto unknown Boer force on Mont Blanc, a kopje to the east of Gun Hill and Table Mountain. After a ferocious days fighting British losses, which included the Guards attack on Gun Hill, amounted to 4 officers and 71 men killed or died of wounds, and 24 officers and 199 men wounded.
