Many thanks for adding two very interesting examples of unusual clasp combinations, with Colonials again being the 'odd men out'. I hope there will soon be some Imperial soldiers to join the aberrations.

The last of my Elandslaagte oddities is the QSA awarded to Captain H B Andreasen, Border Mounted Rifles, who commanded No. 1 Troop, No. 4 (Port Shepstone) Squadron of the BMR. This Squadron was ordered to join the Natal Mounted Rifles when it was deployed to Elandslaagte. Another unit that attached itself to the NMR at this time was the Newcastle Troop of the Natal Carbineers that was en route to Ladysmith independently of the retreating Dundee garrison. In one of the mysteries and injustices of the award of clasps, the Carbineers Troop received the Elandslaagte clasp, but the BMR Troop did not.
Andreasen's story is told here:

Hello Brett,
A most interesting thread, I must admit that I have never thought about errors or indeed anything "wrong" before.

I have forgotten most of what I once knew, so the link to Dargan's QSA was a very happy reminder of this great medal. Thank you for showing it again.
