Hi

I have aquired a group to 20284 SHG:STH H.T. Bennett R.F.A.
The group comprises a WW1 GV MSM named 92 SJT H T Bennett S.A.W.S Corps
QSA 20284 SHG:STH H.T. Bennett R.F.A. Clasps CC,OFS,Tvl
KSA SA01,SA02
WW1 War Medal Sjt H T Bennett W.S.C
Bilingual VM Ditto

Can any member advise me of which unit in the RFA he served and whether he is entitled to a KSA ?

Or refer me to the correct roll pages ?

Regards

Adrian

Harry Thomas Bennett only joined the Army in December 1901, he was a 20 year old Smith from Market Needham in Norfolk, so certainly no KSA.
His South Africa 1902 clasp is very clearly shown in WO100/141.

Thanks Frank

The KSA looked a bit strange but I was not certain.

Hello Adrian

He served with 20 battery which is confirmed on the medal roll and his papers.

The medal roll also states he served with 68 battery and in the Remarks section "No 4 Veterinary Hospital Bloemfontein". The latter may have been post war as the roll was completed in 1903.

20 battery is very interesting as they formed part of the RA Mounted Rifles - a short lived unit formed in December 1901. However, as a shoeing-smith he may not have been part of the fighting force but rather based at a remount depot (the RA had their own) looking after horses.

What are the WW1 unit abbreviations please?

Hello Adrian,
The KSA will be completely spurious, notwithstanding, if he awarded that to himself and subsequently actually wore it, then, it is part of the group and should be kept, I take it he did not serve in GSWA?
