QSA (3) Transvaal, South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902 (6566 Pte J. Fisher. Welsh Regt)

Joe Fisher served with the 1st Battalion The Welsh Regiment in South Africa and is confirmed on the roll with the Queen's Medal and three clasps.

He was recalled to the Colours for active service during the Great War, again with the Welsh Regiment. Landing in France in January 1915, Fisher was killed in action a little over one month later on 17 February; having no known grave, he is commemorated on Panel 37 of the Menin Gate Memorial.

The DSO* MC group to C S Linton sold at Spink on Wednesday for a hammer price of £7,000. Totals (inc VAT on the commission for the UK only): £8,680. R168,800. Au$15,200. Can$14,530. US$11,590.

It sold 3 years ago at Spink for £4,800.

QSA (5) Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Diamond Hill, Belfast, South Africa 1901 (7420 Pte. J. B. John, Vl: Co: Welsh Regt.)

John Bevan John was born at Longhon, Glamorgan in 1876. He enlisted in 1900 with 1st Volunteer Service Company, Welsh Regiment and is confirmed on the roll medal for this unit with four clasps. Further entitled to the King's Medal & clasp.


He is entitled to SA01 (WO100/190p217) rather than the KSA.
