QSA (4) Orange Free State, Transvaal, South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902 (2659 Pte J. Richardson. Scots Gds.)

John Richardson was born at Castle Bytham, Stamford, Lincolnshire in 1881. Enlisting with the Scots Guards on 20 February 1899 at Stamford he was promoted Lance Corporal on 24 April 1900 only to revert Private on 1 July 1900. Posted to South Africa on 1 April 1901 with 3rd Battalion he served there until 11 May 1902 when he was returned to Britain. Continuing to serve until 20 February 1906 when he transferred to the 'A' Class Reserve, remaining with that until his final discharge on 19 February 1911.

QSA 3 clasps CC, Trans, Witte (90 Pte W Williams Scots Gds), VF. Note: Pte Williams 2nd Battalion Scots Guards joined the Regt 5.6.1893, died of disease 4.12.1900 in Harrismith, SA, with photocopies of service records confirming clasps
