Notwithstanding that fact IL the group is "luscious" - to what regiment are the WWI medals named?

Hi
My stuiwer in die armbeurs!!

Robert Francis Gainsford was issued a QSA with DoK off the KTG Roll. He subsequently served with the Kimberley Light Horse, earning the RoM & OFS bars. On the KLH roll the medal & DoK bar issued from the KTG is mentioned.
He then served with the Special Cape Police Contingent (severely wounded at De Klipdrift on 7 March 1902). The relevant QSA roll credits him with CC and Tvl bars, but having a DoK bar already issued precluded the issue of the CC bar.
He eventually received a clutch of 3 bars, RoM/OFS/Tvl, which was fixed to the DoK bar with unofficial rivets.

Here is one to the Port Elizabeth Town Guard (312 Pte W Harris). I have noticed that of the medals to town guards with bars, those to the PETG seem the most common. I can explain this by the size of the TG, but I suspect there must have been something specific about them that they went on to join other units.

Hi Ryan
Your medal to Harris is OK : he earned the two clasps with Nesbitt's Horse.
Unfortunately,99% of PE Town Guard QSA's with the Cape Colony clasp that have appeared on the market are bogus.
Originally, virtually every man on the QSA roll was shown as entitled to the CC clasp. However, in the top righthand corner of the first page of the roll authority is noted for erasure of the clasps and they are all ruled through with a vertical line. On the B&W copies of the roll that are available on internet and microfilm this is not so obvious as on the original rolls where, I seem to recall, the line was in red.
So it happens that people glance at the roll, think they see entitlement to CC and duly have it added. In my early collecting days I twice paid a premium for a PE TG with CC clasp.
Henk
