Good Afternoon Everyone.....

Just trying to find out the Christian names of the following:

55 TROOPER Z.B. WHITEHEAD, WINTERBURG MOUNTED RIFLES

Seem that the were a number of Whiteheads in the Winterburg M.R., I would guess that they must have farmed or had a business in the area.

Certainly, from memory at least, I don't think a nominal roll is extant at Kew for these men, so if the units roll in WO100 does not show forenames, the only thing left to do would be a careful look throughout WO126/145-163, in the hope of actually finding the odd mans paper if there, still a very nice medal though and certainly not a common one.

I always tend to look at medals initially, at least, purely from the military point of view, however, in the case of these Class E types, I dare say a South African member, Rory perhaps, could isolate the family for you to the particular locality and period of time.

Mike, forgot ask, just out of interest, how is the name of this unit actually impressed upon the medal, is it just Winterburg MR?
