Herbert Mercer was commissioned in Edinburgh Artillery Militia 6/4/81, transferred as Lieut from 3rd Bde Scottish Div RA to 3rd Drgn Gds 30/1/84, promoted Capt 8/4/90, Maj 3/4/97, Lt Col 2/7/04 and Bt Col 2/7/07. He served in South African operations in Transvaal May & Jul 1901, ORC Feb 1901 to 31/5/02, Zululand Frontier Sep-Oct 1901.

He was born in Maidstone, commanded Regt 1905-07, WW1 served Reserve of Cavalry attached to Staff, landed France 9/8/15 but only issued a BWM, served in Northern Ireland as Security Officer, became Unionist MP for Sudbury 1922-23, died in 1942 aged 82

With various copied research including RAF service papers article on issue of Army LSGC to RFC, MIC, casualty list etc,

Frederick Walter Huntley was born in Folkestone, enlisted in 3rd Drgn Gds 15/6/98, awarded the RVM personally by the King during an official visit to Aldershot on 15th July 1910 where Huntley carried the Royal Standard, landed France 31/10/14, wounded 13/11/14, transferred to RFC as a Disciplinarian 9/8/15, LSGC in Army Order 333 dated Oct 1916, promoted TSM 2/5/17, discharged 16/7/19, died 20/7/33.

Only 30 awards of Army LSGC to RFC and a further 8 to RAF.

On the face of it, a pleasing group and certainly worth having for the LSGC alone.

Unofficial rivets between 3rd and 4th clasps.

Alexander Ian Mitchell was born 13/4/69, educated at Eton, commissioned 1/11/93, promoted Lieut 23/2/95, Capt 15/4/99, served in De Wet hunt with Bethune's column, in action Armstrong Drift 28/12/01, 2 soldiers mentioned in dispatches for rescuing him when he had 2 horses shot from under him.

Served WW1 with Somaliland Camel Corps and from 28/8/16 in France with MGC-Cavalry.

He was later Dep Lieut of Berwickshire and a member of The Royal Company of Archers.

Rhodesia, Relief of Mafeking and Transvaal clasps earned whilst attached to “E” Squadron, Rhodesia Regiment.

John Fountain was born at Lambeth, London, and attested for the 3rd Dragoon Guards in London on 21 June 1883, and was appointed shoeing smith in January 1887. He was promoted to Sergeant-Farrier in June 1888, and to Staff Sergeant-Farrier in January 1893. He served overseas in the East Indies from October 1884 to October 1892, then in Natal until October 1895, and in South Africa from August 1899 to September 1901. His LS&GC medal was awarded in Army Order 10 of 1904, and he was discharged at Curragh on 23 October 1906.

Described by Lockdales as 'died Kroostan 7-5-1801.' He died of disease in Kroonstad, 7 May 1901.
